Is there a way to prevent mineral deposits on my bathroom (sink) spigot?

Within a couple days of cleaning my sink I always see muddy goop around the bathroom faucet. I assume we have hard water and it's just the mineral deposits from that. It's not dirt, per se, but it looks disgusting. Outside of cleaning every day, is there a way to prevent this? Is there a filter or something I could put in?
