My kitten has been diagnosed with bacterial conjunctivitis?

they prescribed him a triple antibiotic ocular ointment which he turned out to be allergic to and was administered benadryl. I went back to my vets and they gave me another ointment to use instead, just a basic ointment mainly for kittens, and he isn't swelling up with this ointment, however, his eyes seem far more worse than they were when i was just cleaning them and not using any medication. the reason i brought him to the vet in the first place is because he had green goop coming out of one of his eyes. also, could it just be viral if it was green and should i take a shot at leaving it alone for the next few days to see what it does without the medication? please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
