Islamic belief on why jesus was crucified?

I know that islam denies christ was crucified and alo denies that any resurrection of jesus took place. But I am curious as to why they believe jesus was sent to the cross in the first place? I know in the bible it says that jesus was sent to the cross because he was convicted of blasphemy(claiming he was god), does islam believe the same?
